All about Pateros and Balut

I came across this blog when I Googled something about balut, as the town of Pateros is famous for their balut [or "baby duck inside"]. Dennis has this take on making and eating balut - Pateros style.

Ok, I know now, I was researching the origins of balut as I know now from my experience overseas that balut is not unique to Pinoy. It is a Southeast delicacy that the Cambodians, Laotians and Vietnames love as well.

But this blog is more than balut itself but about the going on in Pateros and Dennis life growing up in community.

One of the things I love and like is his stories about his Nanay, that I can relate to.

Mother nature - Fair trade store

I've been looking for the meaning of "Amba" on the net as I've read it in Norman Wilwayco's novel, "Gerilya". I've found some Sanskrit meaning ["mother"] but nothing in terms of Filipino usage.

I stumbled upon this online store, amba nature that market Philippine made products at fair trade prices and fair trade concept.

"[And] it is not our intention to make substantial profits, but we do need to make one to stay in business and continue our work, and whatever good fortune comes our way, we want to give it meaning and transform it into something of value." says it all.

This is my favourite and preferred Philippine handicrafts and products web site.

Humming On Air

Why I did not include Jim Paredes' iconic blog in the first place, I don't know. I usually visit and read his postings: for one I am an APO fan and two, since he write a column in the Philippine Star, it is easier t keep tab of his column via his blog.

Now that his blog is one of the most "Top Pinoy Expat’s Blog for 2008" I was reminded by my self to include his blog into my fav collection [sort of DeliCious but with my remarks of why I love the blog!].

The judges said the following:

“Meaningful and inspiring posts”
“Brings out pride in being Filipino”
“Writing on Air has depth and substance. Jim’s blog is brilliant and inspiring. His take on issues around the world and as well as personal experiences are culturally enriching as a Filipino. The lay-out and design is clean.”

Need I say more?
